A group this week, we discussed the reasoning and what needs to be done for the website. We also looked into what needs to be done as a whole for the practice presentation. We agreed that the work needs to be towards the actual presentation to our peers and faculty that need to see it. AS I write this, we discuss more of what needs to be done, such as tab design and other things, but we will be ready for the presentation. We agreed that we will need to discuss further the parts each person will present, but up our sleeve, we have a quiz and project tab for each coffee shop lined up. I think the handle on the website from the group is superb; we are in the right spot and believe that we can make more look at the work of the project. I worked on my page a bit, but I will be working on more tomorrow through Swazys’ guidance. The challenge I had was trying to get photos and an interview from my friend, but it will all work out in the end. I think our group is in functional headspace and is going to work till we get it all done. I don’t think there is much to worry over since we are very efficient and timely mannered workers. Till next week to describe our final week in this class and what we need to do from here.
Week 14 Blog – Swazy D
Hello hello everyone! Week 14 of blogs (almost done) and week 10,000, or what feels like it, of this quarantine.
We have not taken the time to practice the presentation yet due to scheduling conflicts but we have all been working on the site itself when we find the time! It’s coming along nicely with the hope and understanding that it will be completely finished by Sunday or Monday that way we can all meet on either of those days to go over the site itself and probably do a run through or two before our practice project.
Logistically we haven’t figured Zoom presenting out yet, BUT my guess is we will most likely have a person screen sharing the site who is most familiar with it for easy and smooth navigation while everyone takes turns speaking their piece on each coffee shop.
Contributions this week have been minimal but necessary, we have all seemed to take the lead on this during different stages of this project and now it sort of feels like it’s my turn. I’ve worked on the backend of the site a bit this week and we just had a discussion on all finishing our assigned tabs by the end of the weekend. No challenges, yet, just pushing forward towards the end!
Week 14 Blog
This week we are all working on some of the same content, as well as more specific assignments for our project. My contribution this week is working on an “about” page for The Mill. I am also working on creating a quiz for our interactive portion of the project. I have been mostly brainstorming how to do the quiz and what to include in it. I may run into issues creating it since I am not great at creating features on sites. We are all working on continuing to get written portions and pictures from other students who frequent coffee shops. Swazy is doing a lot of putting what the rest of us gather together on the site. We also decided to include a page on our site that explains the project in a sort of artsy way. I think Johanna is writing it, although it would be interesting to see what we could all come up with since we are all putting a good amount of work into this piece. We havent practiced as a group yet, but plan to on Monday since that day works for the best for our group. The kinks of who will present what and how we will go about our presentation will be ironed out when we practice. I think overall our final product that we will have on Tuesday to present will be pretty good, and am excited to see how it goes.
Week 14_Sisneros
When it comes to our contribution I feel like we did a really good job of divying everything up. I organized and sketched out the different tasks that needed to be included and the people that need to work on them. For me, all I have left is two write ups, a picture.
We haven’t discovered the logistics of the presentation yet, however, we are planning on doing a trial zoom meeting on monday before our practice on tuesday to walk through how we want to present and who needs to say what in order for it to go as smoothly as possible.
I am a bit concerned personally about how we bring up the website during the presentation and how it all works, but that has more to do with my ignorance of zoom and technology than with the group or our presentation. I trust one of us will figure it out. Even with the significant difficulties we have experienced throughout our project, I am very very happy with how it is turning out and how productive we are being. It may not be everything we envisioned in the beginning but it is certainly something that I’m proud of and happy to present.
Week 14 Blog – Sarah Betts
The topic of this week’s blog does not pertain to us since we neither presented or watched any other groups present. I am guessing it was suppose to be practice presentation week if the Coronavirus hadn’t affected us. Because of this, I am just going to discuss our group’s project so far and the plan for the final upcoming weeks.
This week was probably our most productive week for our website on the topic of what coffee shops mean to college students. We have the final plan for our website and its overall design written on paper with the testimonies and short summaries of the 5 coffee shops we are profiling. I completed the “about us” page and have all the necessary information and media I need for the “Art Bar” section, a coffee shop in Hastings Nebraska. We met as a group over Zoom to discuss our progress and what each person needs to do to maximize our time during these final few days of the semester. One challenge that we encountered was trying to put our ideas into action, including how to create a quiz on our website to include an interactive portion. This is something none of us have done before, but with teamwork, I am certain we will accomplish it. We are planning to practice our presentation before the official practice presentation next week.
Week 13 blog
This week we talked it over and unanimously agreed we need to develop more content written information for the website. We had to scramble last time to make up for that situation and decided that it needs to be done by next Monday, at least. The struggle is our topic, and I am personally nervous. I hope I find a good day to capture the media around me with the weather conditions that will hit New York soon. Regardless, I will have to make do with what I can when the time comes. We haven’t agreed yet who will be presenting what, but during our meeting discussed that one of us will screen record so that it will be a good start moving forward. Faculty help, if any, should be towards working on the look of our website and making sure it looks clean. Just a glance at it would be helpful as this class has become more challenging due to remote learning. Out team practice presentation should probably be to narrow done our focus of who is presenting what and in what order. We need to ensure that our tactic when it comes to presenting these is pretty good. I think our group is in a great place with what is done and what needs to be done. Hopefully, we can start moving in the direction of presentation guidelines and such.
Week 13 Blog
Our group is working on gathering additional content to what we already have. This means more photos and writings from friends about coffee shops. Our site needs to be finished and more content added. We also need to figure out and decided on an interactive portion of our project. Once we decide on what will be this portion of the project then we need to implement it into our website. We have yet to decide who will be presenting what and how we will tackle presenting our project. I hope that the practice presentation helps us figure our these kinks. It should also prepare us for our final presentation on what information we can all include. This week we all worked on continuing to find additional content and contacting people for additional written portions and pictures of themselves at coffee shops. Challenges that I encountered this week were getting written portions from other people in a timely matter. This next week I think we will make a lot of progress on our project and am excited to see us come closer to the final product. We also need to decide in the next couple of weeks if we will contribute writing to the website as well. I think this would be beneficial if some of us have words to add on the topic
Week 13_Sisneros
I don’t want to say that we are struggling with anything persay, I know that we are on the final legs of getting the website put together. A few more excerpts here, and an interactive quiz there and I feel like we will be finished in no time. Overall I find us at a relatively good spot, especially taking into account all the chaos around us.
Because we are in such a relatively good spot, I wouldn’t say we need much help from the faculty other than basic understanding of our situation. We haven’t necessarily discussed how we are going to present and that still seems like a bit of a mystery to me. I’m sure with a quick question to my group however or even a google search on presenting via zoom, it will be cleared right up.
I want us to really get the flow of presentation down for the practice presentations. I feel very good about our content and how it is being organized. I think once we get the presentation down and out of the way we will be golden for the final. Overall I think we’ve done a really good job at keeping cool heads and channeling an air of adaptability with the whole project. I’m not incredibly worried and very excited to see the finished project.
Week 13 Blog – Swazy D
HELLO AND WELCOME TO WEEK 13 OF CLASS AND WEEK 1000 OF QUARANTINE. I think it’s no surprise I’m slowly starting to lose my mind, but IT’S FINE. I WILL BE OKAY.
This week has been an interesting one! I feel like I’m up to my neck in work and see no end in sight, BUT AGAIN, I will live (I hope.) Given all of the hoops that have been jumped through in these past few weeks even before the quarantine; with totally switching up our topic, being unable to collect in person media, and everything moving online I feel like our biggest struggle with this project is just things going right for us haha. We have an idea and outline now which is excellent, I’ve got a solid start on the website, and I am sharing the login info with the group so they can make adjustments as needed, I think now the main thing we need to do is just come together as a group and knock this website out in a way that we are all pleased with the final product. Thankfully, as we mentioned in our meeting this week, we haven’t lost sight of the goal of this project, and I think that is one of our most significant achievements with all of this madness so far.
In terms of help, I’m sure we will reach out as needed, we haven’t talked about who is presenting quite yet. From the practice presentation, I would love it if we could get a little bit of guidance if anything we have done so far has missed the mark, whether it be missing the point of certain parts of the project or missing requirements.
Week 13 Blog – Sarah Betts
With practice presentations beginning next week, our team is struggling with how we want our overall website to look. We have the testimonials and media we need, however, we are struggling on how to make the website and its different pages look how we envision it. Because of this, we need to discuss as a group our plan moving forward for the next few weeks. We need to schedule when we need our final media pieces by, as well as the different writing pieces. From the faculty, I think we will just need some input when we think our website is in the final stages as to what else needs to be done before final presentations. We have not yet discussed who is presenting what during the presentation. We want to focus on this during the practice presentation, as well as how to show our website in its entirety during the short amount of time we are given to present.
This week, we met as a group and with our instructor. We discussed our progress so far and what we still have to do in the future. We were challenged by designing the website’s look, and in the future, we will have a better plan instead of jumping right in.
